London Fashion Week announces 2009 dates

London Fashion Week has announced the dates for 2009: the February event will take place February 20-24, and the September event runs September 18-22; The Exhibition at LFW will run Saturday-Tuesday. Following consultation with designers and media, in February there will be a one-day overlap with New York as the fashion capitals readjust scheduling to accommodate new dates. The February event marks the first fashion week of the BFC's 25 Year Celebrations of British Fashion, showcasing the best of British design - further details tba. Organised by the BFC and funded by sponsors, including Canon UK, which has been headline sponsor for six consecutive seasons, London Fashion Week is worth £20m to the London economy in terms of direct spend and generates orders in the region of £100m.

Central Saint Martins and University of the Arts launches jotta.com

In partnership with Central Saint Martins and University of the Arts London, new website jotta.com aims to provide a digital community for emerging art, design and communication creatives. Recently relaunched, the site enables registered users to manage and showcase their own online portfolios, explore other designers’ work and communicate with peers in the forum. Additionally, there is an advice and education section for students, and industry opportunities in the Marketplace section.

Nicole Hanley and Matthew Mellon unveil details of ready-to-wear line

High-profile couple Nicole Hanley and Matthew Mellon have teamed up in business to launch ready-to-wear label Hanley Mellon for spring/summer 2009. Created with luxury designer Adam Drawas, the label is inspired by heritage and lifestyle; pieces include military jackets, wide leg trousers, high-waisted shorts, dresses and cashmere staples in a colour palette of black and white, navy, yellow and sage green. Jigsaw launches organic beauty range

Womenswear retailer Jigsaw has launched new bath and bodycare range Jigsaw Organics. The 10-piece range contains natural ingredients including demerara sugar, shea butter and essential oils; products are certified organic by the Soil Association and are housed in environmentally friendly packaging including hand-blown glass bottles. The range is available at Jigsaw and selected John Lewis stores.

Mungo and Maud opens first shop-in-shop

Pet accessories label Mungo and Maud has announced the launch of its first shop-in-shop in Harrods, which will open at the end of November. To mark the launch, the label has created a tailored dog coat which will be sold exclusively in Harrods, priced £120. Mungo and Maud specialises in luxury accessories for dogs and cats; the brand's flagship boutique is located on London's Elizabeth Street.

Fashion Weekend After Hours debuts in December

Single Market Events has announced the launch of Fashion Weekend After Hours, the first pop-up version of London Fashion Weekend. Taking place December 4-6 at the Covent Garden Flower Cellars, London, the ticketed event offers discounted designer shopping, personal stylists, interactive installations and fashion advice, as well as bars, DJs and a VIP area. Confirmed exhibiting designers include Sara Berman, Ben de Lisi, Sass & Bide, Lola Rose, Janet Reger, Bracher Emden, Alice McCall, Ella Moss, Designer Studio presenting Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano.

Tom Ford makes directorial debut

Fashion designer Tom Ford has announced plans to direct his first feature film, A Single Man, which will star Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode. The film will be produced by Tom Ford's production company Fade To Black and is currently in the final stages of pre production; shooting begins in LA this month.

Victoria Beckham fronts Emporio Armani Underwear campaign

Giorgio Armani has announced that Victoria Beckham will front the worldwide campaign for Emporio Armani Women's Underwear. Victoria will make her debut in the spring/summer 2009 ad campaign, shot by fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Speaking about the appointment, Giorgio Armani said, 'Victoria is a style icon, a dynamic lady whose influence and recognition will add great excitement to the continued international growth of our Emporio Armani Women's Underwear business.'
